There's something to be said for wearing a mask. It provides anonymity, and intrigue. This week, the mask also provides a Hot Hitmakers debut for Chris Comstock (AKA Marshmello/DotCom).
Marshmello is by no means the first, especially in the EDM scene, to employ such a mask on the rise to stardom, with predecessors including Deadmau5 & Daft Punk. But his true identity was only recently revealed. Regardless of this new public knowledge, Comstock has continued climbing the charts, debuting this week due in part to his latest collaboration: "Everyday" with Logic.
Unlike Comstock, Logic has not had the benefit of hiding behind a mask and a sound board. He's known for bearing his soul in lyrics like that of "1-800-273-8255." Such a public showcase of emotion is bound to produce internal conflict, the likes of which make their way into "Everyday" - "Now they know my name wherever I go / Used to think that's what I wanted, but now, just don't know."
Also new to the chart this week is John Cunningham, debuting at No. 11 alongside the returning Jahseh Onfory (AKA XXXTentacion).
