With the constant barrage of information, sometimes we need a little comedy thrown in the mix. Who better to turn to than David Burd (AKA Lil Dicky)? Burd makes his Hot Hitmakers debut this week following the release of "Freaky Friday."
After 3 years without releasing any new songs, Burd's No. 5 debut comes as a bit of a surprise, to him as well. Though he always thought it could be a hit, the question lingered. But prominent streaming placements & a viral video certainly helped it along to a No. 9 Hot 100 debut, Burd's first Top 10. He spoke with Billboard following the occasion, mentioning "it's validating to see a song be mainstream while being so quirky and weird...You just ever know how far it can go."
Quirky and weird it is. The song pulls on the idea of body-switching seen in Freaky Friday with Barbara Harris & Jodie Foster in 1976 then Jamie Lee Curtis & Lindsay Lohan in 2003. Burd, however, opts to switch with Chris Brown, then later Ed Sheeran, DJ Khaled, & Kendall Jenner.
Also new to the chart this week is Grant Dickinson (AKA TheLabCook), Dimitri Roger's (AKA Rich The Kid) co-writer on "Plug Walk," coming in at No. 20.
