Hot Hitmakers

Aug 16, 2018

Mike Dean, Cydel Young (AKA Cyhi the Prynce), Adam Feeney (AKA Frank Dukes), Chauncey Hollis (AKA Hit-Boy), Tim & Kevin Gomringer (AKA CuBeatz), Brytavious Chambers, & Aubrey Graham (AKA Drake) are among the songwriters enlisted to help Jacques Webster (AKA Travis Scott) craft his latest project, Astroworld. They also make up 40% of this week's Hot Hitmakers, with debuts from Hollis & the Gomringers.

The album dethrones Drake's Scorpion on the Billboard 200 after 5 weeks. But it's the songs themselves, all 17 of which rank in the Hot 100, which vault Travis Scott & his co-writers to new levels of stardom. In fact, Scott tops the Artist 100 for the first time this week.

But such success wasn't without its hurdles. In fact, it's the lack of Grammy consideration for Travis Scott's last album which pushed the rapper forward on Astroworld, seeking out a community of the best the music business has to offer, not all of them hip hop. If you peruse the credits, you'll find artists ranging from Stevie Wonder and Earth Wind & Fire to John Mayer and James Blake. But genre doesn't matter when it really comes down to it, especially if you have someone like Mike Dean (cited as 'the closer' by Scott's A&R rep) who can bring all these elements together seamlessly.
