The times are changing. No longer are teen idols claiming the top of the charts. And the songwriters behind the newly trending hip-hop genre are benefitting. This week, the top 6 songwriters remain unchanged from last, many of whom are performers in their own right.
But the song that's taking the charts by storm is of a different sort. Though still hip-hop, Childish Gambino's "This Is America" has a political tinge which the others don't. Written by Donald Glover & Ludwig Goransson (who have no other current Hot 100s), the song debuted at #1, the first political song to do so since Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" in 2011.
Also returned to the chart this week is Jeremy Reid, the beatmaker behind Nicki Minaj's "Barbie Tingz" & "Chun-Li."
