As hip-hop gets harder and more regional, Aubrey Graham (AKA Drake) challenges convention with softer, more global lyrics and music. The recently released Scary Hours 'EP' is equally unconventional, with just two songs. Comprised of "God's Plan" (which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100) and "Diplomatic Immunity" (which debuted at No. 7), the EP heralds Graham's return, and Matthew Samuels' (AKA Boi-1da) Hot Hitmakers debut. Though new to our chart, Samuels is no stranger to creating hits, having produced tracks for artists including Eminem, Rihanna, Lana Del Rey, Jay-Z, Nicki Minaj, & Kendrick Lamar.
Also new to Hot Hitmakers this week is 24-year-old Emily Warren, who gained some notoriety with her featured (but uncredited) vocal on The Chainsmokers' "Paris." But it is her songwriting prowess which earns her the No. 17 spot on this week's Hot Hitmakers. Signed to Dr. Luke's Prescription Songs in 2013, Warren has written for such artists as Jessie J, Shawn Mendes, & Dua Lipa ("New Rules"). The Chainsmokers' "Sick Boy" is her third collaboration with the duo and debuts this week at No. 65 on the Billboard Hot 100.
